What is the Macondo JWST School?
It is a COSPAR Capacity Building Workshop focused on James Webb Space Telescope data analysis, taking place in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from June 15-26, 2026.

Applications
Who can apply?
Undergraduate students of last year, graduate students (master and PhD) and early-career researchers, primarily from Latin America and other developing regions.
When is the deadline?
Applications remain open until November 01, 2026.

Selection Process
How are participants selected?
Based on academic merit, technical relevance, and potential to impact their personal careers and home institutions.
When will I be notified?
Results will be announced in 10 December 2026.

Financial Support
Is there a registration fee?
No, participation is free for selected students.
Is travel support available?
We provide accommodation and meals for all the participants and limited grants to cover travel.

Academic Program
What topics are covered?
Focus includes JWST data reduction, photometry, spectroscopy, and scientific interpretation in exoplanets, brown dwarfs, galaxies and cosmology.
What is the daily format?
Morning lectures followed by intensive afternoon hands-on computational projects using real archival data first week. And second week mainly develop of individual projects lecture-student with some talks about career advices.

Practical Information
What do I need to bring?
A laptop with required software pre-installed (instructions will be sent to selected students).
Where will I stay?
Accommodation details in Bucaramanga will be provided to participants upon selection.

After the Workshop
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, participants who complete their projects will receive an official COSPAR certificate.
Can I publish the results?
Students are encouraged to finalize their projects into scientific publications or presentations with mentor support.
